Mighty Car Mods Top 4 Products
From late nights in the shed to saving a classic, the recent Turbo Hilux build that featured in SCA’s latest Best Performing Oils campaign is pure Mighty Car Mods. In this article, we dive deep into the some of tools, and workshop essentials used to breathe new life into an old Toyota Hilux — transforming it from a humble workhorse into a turbocharged sleeper. From the gear that made the fabrication possible to the products trusted when things got hot, loud, and occasionally sideways, this article breaks down the hands-on kit from Supercheap Auto that helped make this Hilux one of the most Super Toyotas on the planet.
1. Castrol GTX 20W-50 and Castrol Edge 5W-40
Castrol is always our go-to oil, and with two very different engines, choosing the right one mattered. Castrol GTX 20W-50 kept the older motor happy, while Castrol EDGE 5W-40 handled the tougher, high-performance duties of the 2TR. The right oil for the right purpose meant reliability, protection, and confidence every time we turned the key, and this was particularly important when the newly turbo’d Hilux went head to head with the MCM Gemini.

2. ToolPRO Breaker Bar
When we first started the build as a simple restoration, we challenged ourselves to use only period-correct tools (that meant no power tools!). The ToolPRO breaker bar saved us from reaching for the ugga dugga and cheating. With a bit of persuasion, even the most stubborn 50-year-old rusted bolts finally cracked loose and we got a real sense of working on an old school nugget without fancy electric tools.

3. ToolPRO Torque Wrench
The ToolPro Torque Wrench was essential for making sure our bolts were torqued to spec and gave us confidence that this 70’s Hilux wouldn’t fall apart on us. From the new clutch install to suspension and brakes, this tool was the MVP for the build.
Pro tip: Mark your bolts at 12 o clock with a paint pen so you can visually see which bolts have been torqued which haven’t.

4. CRC Rust converter
This 70’s Hilux nugget was super rusty so CRC’s Rust converter came in handy. It let us save old tired parts back from going into the bin and refreshed them into looking almost brand new. Perfect for keeping OEM parts alive and keep the progress going!
