diy-polishing-01 1) Before polishing your car be sure to speak with a Team Member at your local Supercheap Auto store to ensure that you have the correct polish for your car. Many older cars require a cutting polish to rejuvenate paint work back to its original colour. Some new cars may not require a polish at all and simply require regular waxing. A simple way to think about polishes and waxes is that polishes gently smooth out tiny imperfections in the paint surface, whereas waxes basically add a protective wax film to seal in the shine.
diy-polishing-02 2) Whenever waxing or polishing your car, be sure to follow the instructions on the packet exactly. As a general guide it is always advisable to polish/wax your car in the shade immediately after washing it.
diy-polishing-03 3) Never attempt to wax/polish the entire car in one go. Generally one panel at a time is sufficient or approximately 1m2. This will allow the solution to slightly dry but not bake onto the duco, providing excellent solution application without too much work to buff off. It is often a good idea to use a slightly damp cloth when applying polish.
diy-polishing-04 4) Using a second clean, dry cloth or orbital buffer, buff off all the wax/polish to reveal an incredible lustre.
diy-polishing-05 5) If the paint work has minor scratches or swirl marks it may be plausible to administer a second application of polish to the affected area.

If you have been waxing your car the good news is that you are complete – well done! If you have been polishing your car it will be advisable to go through the process again using either a wax or polymer sealant to seal in the lasting shine and protect your car's duco.
